Formula 1 is a very dangerous sport, anything can happen within moments. That is why the ruling body FIA has implemented far more safety regulations during races over the years. One of the key safety measures taken by the administration is the safety car regulations.
If a driver crashes or has a collision with any other driver, a safety car will come out and every race car will fall behind the safety car till the track is cleared. But in this season, for the last 9 races, we didn't see any safety cars. This is the first time in two decades since the 2003-2004 season.
Tracks like Singapore and Baku have a long history of accidents and crashes and not even a single year has passed without safety cars. But this year even they are surprised as the races happened very clean without any stoppage.

Fernando Alonso, the former world champion, gave an interesting theory behind the safety car drought this season. The Spaniard feels that trying 100% to extract performance from these cars which are not easy to drive is the main problem for crashes.
Alonso says driving these cars at 90% is also fast and that is what drivers are doing this season without straining and pushing too much. He also pointed out the Azerbaijan GP as a good example. He said, “Baku was a very good example. I was 15th in Q1, with Lando’s problem. In Q1 I was 16th and seven minutes later I put on different tyres and I was P5 and I improved by 1.1 seconds. I drove the same. I was Braking at the same point. It was the same preparation on that lap, but I was able to improve by 1.1 seconds."
Fernando admits every driver is running 90% and they all have to pay attention to tyres, fuel consumption and many other things. That is why safety cars have not been seen recently. This year, Formula 1 drivers are facing many issues from winning races, saving their driver seats, and not giving the teams too much stress everything is managed by them and that is why driving skills have improved and we are not seeing safety cars.
