The American auto giant GM (General Motors) is set to enter the Formula 1 sport for the first time in the 2026 season. They are entering the grid as the 11th team with Andretti Global and will be a customer team for Ferrari for the 2026 season.
After the 2026 season, GM will be coming with their own engine to compete against the European giants. The European car brands are seen as respectful and luxurious by many people around the world. General Motors has its own Luxury brand Cadillac which they are bringing to the Formula 1 grid to tackle the European superpowers.
They will back Andretti Global and be called the Andretti Cadillac F1 team. This will be the second American team next to the Haas F1 team to join Formula 1 as a direct competitor. GM’s rival Ford will also enter Formula 1 in 2026 and will not be a direct competitor but will be supplying engines to Red Bull as the Austrian team's partnership with Honda will be over by then. Haas also joined with Toyota recently in a technical partnership.
GM’s entry has been opposed by F1 giants like Mercedes and Red Bull as they think it could reduce the revenue they get each year from the FIA. But FIA has said GM’s entry will give the sport more global presence and also generate more revenue. They will join TWG Global-backed Andretti Global and enter the world's top racing series.

American vs European battle-ready
But with Haas, GM and Ford in the Formula 1 race we can see a repeat of Ford vs Ferrari-like battle in the future. Back in 1960, Ford entered the 24-hour Le Mans race to beat Ferrari at their own game of endurance driving. Ford vs Ferrari is still one of the world's -iconic rivalries and Formula 1 could see history repeating itself.
The European-dominated race series could soon be an American vs European battle. American manufacturers entering the sport will also make the sport very popular in the USA. Let us see what the Americans bring to the table next year.
