WATCH: Throwback to Jos Verstappen revealing his troublesome relation with Max Verstappen

The reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen is a tough guy as everybody knows. He is known for his aggressive driving and always pushing to the limits to win. He will do anything just to win. Behind all these, there is a gruelling story of the champ's childhood. Jos Verstappen the father of Max Verstappen was also a Formula 1 Driver. He raced against legends like Michael Schumacher, and Kimi Raikkonen. His Formula 1 career started in 1994 and he retired in 2003. 

Max and Jos' Troublesome relationship

Jos Verstappen wanted his son to become a Formula 1 driver and a world champion which he couldn't achieve in his career. So he grows him to be a tough guy. When Max Verstappen was young his parents got separated and Max lived with his father and where he went for karting. 

This video shows Max Verstappens's father, Friends and mentors talking about a situation where Max was crying and Jos wanted nobody to go near him and console him. Max Verstappen's friends say even they are scared of Jos Verstappen during their childhood days.

The video has resurfaced and many fans commented Jos was very hard on Max and he did not have a happy childhood. But Jos defended by saying he raised Max as hard because that was his plan. In a Documentary Jos said, “There are people say im a bad father because I abused my child, I never abused my child, I raised him, i was hard on him. That was my plan, many people cannot understand what it takes for people to reach the top of the sport."

There are many stories of Jos Verstappen being hard on Max Verstappen. In one instance Max was abandoned in a gas station for not winning the Karting championship and in another instance he was made to practice in the rain when it was ice-freezing cold. Jos says all these are done to toughen up Max Verstappen and it also paid duly as he is the world championship leader and three-time Formula 1 world champion. 

But Jos also has a history of abuse and allegations where he abused his former Partner Sophie Kumpen Max’s Mother. She was also a Karting champion. Jos and Sophie were married in 1996 and separated in 2008 when max was a child and max’s sister is living with his mother.
