Within a day after its release, Black Myth Wukong have peaked at over 2.2 million concurrent player count on Steam. The game has now taken over the peak player count of Palworld and Counter Strike 2 (CS2) to become the second most played game on the platform and remain only a million player shy from PUBG: Battlegrounds. This is one of the fastest climb on the leaderboard.
Black Myth Wukong also currently sits at a 96% Overwhelmingly Positive rating. As expected, a majority of the players are from China, with the game based around Chinese Mythology. Despite that, the western players also seem to be enjoying the game.
The game takes inspiration from various popular titles and builds upon it to deliver a fun yet challenging experience. Although, the game does need a decent PC to fully enjoy the handcrafted environment with next gen visuals, thankfully, there is an official benchmark tool that players can use to check what kind of performance they can expect on their rig.

With such a big opening, the game is now also a big contender for Game of The Year title. There are a few more upcoming games like Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 that can be a great contender, however, we will have to wait and see.
Will Black Myth Wukong beat PUBG?
With PUBG peaking at 3.2 million players, pulling in a million more players is a very ambitious goal. However, gamers also need to note that the current numbers broke almost every record every made on a week day, with more inflow expected on the weekend.
There is a chance that players will finally see a new name on the leaderboard. As of now, PUBG has retained the top spot for over six years, with only Palworld reaching over 2 million players to look them in the eye. Another fun thing to note is that the top three games on Steam are developed in Asian countries.
