Marc Marquez had a disastrous start to his Australian MotoGP race when an insect nearly cost him the race. But brave Marquez had the grit to emerge from the ashes, fight back for his lost positions and win the Australian Grand Prix for the fourth time in his career and his first victory since the 2021 season.

Marquez qualified second and he was lining up for the opening lap. Before the start of the race, Marc Marquez was fighting with a mosquito-like insect that went inside his visor which forced him to remove the visor from the helmet something he doesn't always do.

The visor tear went down under his rear tyres which he saw by himself but there was no time for him to take that as the lights started. The Slippery plastic visor tear led to a wheel spin and he lost his pole position and went back off the grid to 13th on the first corner.

But despite all the terrible things happening around him the Gresini racing rider with his GP23 engine bike tackled all the other riders especially GP 24 riders like Bagnaia and Bastianini to win the race with pure skills and bravery.

Marquez regained to sixth within the first lap which is a tremendous effort for any rider in that class. He then challenged pole leader Jorge Martin and had a tough duel with him. At last Marc Marquez won the Australian Grand Prix for the fourth time in his premier class career.

'A big Insect in the Helmet' - Marc Marquez

Talking about the incident Marc Marquez said “There was a big insect! A big one. On the film on the visor. I couldn't see, and I would've arrived at the first corner without seeing. I never pull the tear off at the start because it's dangerous.

I didn't have a chance to think. I took it off. Unluckily it went under my wheel. I saw it, I tried to remove it but it was impossible. When I released the clutch it started to spin. I thought it was impossible to catch Martin. But I was more calm. I was saving the tyre to have the last attack.”

The same kind of incident happened during the 2020 Misano weekend where Jack Miller’s Ducati sucked the visor tear from Quartararo and it ended his race. Usually, riders will be very careful and there is a gentlemanly agreement between them to remove the visor tears and dispose of them in a safe environment.
