India last witnessed a premium WWE Live event in September 2023 when some of the top stars of the company visited Hyderabad. John Cena, Sami Zayn, Drew McIntyre, and others were on the show. WWE has a rich history of touring India for their shows. However, a Raw or a Smackdown episode is yet to take place in India.

In 1996, WWE visited India for the first time. On 2nd February 1996, Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai hosted the first-ever WWE live show. Six years later, WWE visited India again. Three cities got an opportunity to host the events. On the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of November 2002, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru hosted the WWE shows respectively.

After 14 years their visit in 2002, WWE returned to India in 2016. The shows happened in Delhi on the 15th and 16th of January respectively. Some of the top stars like Roman Reigns and Big Show showed up. On 9th December 2017, another live show took place in New Delhi. It's been 11 months since India last hosted a live show.

Will India host Raw or Smackdown?

It is worth thinking about some of the cities that deserve to host a WWE live show. Some of the top cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Pune have yet to host a live WWE event. They could get a chance to host the show when WWE visits India the next time. Some other cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai deserve to host it after they last did in 2002.

There is a huge demand from India to get hosting rights for weekly shows like Raw and Smackdown. The country has passionate fans in some of the top cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru. It would help the company to expand its base in Asia given the reach they have. India deserves to host Raw or Smackdown if not a PLE.
