Mijain Lopez scripted history as he became the first-ever Individual Olympian to win the gold medal in the same category in five different editions of an event. In the 130 kg Greco-Roman category, the Cuban had won his gold medal by beating some of the best wrestlers in the world. In the process, the 41-year-old established his legacy as a great wrestler.
After winning his bout with the Chile wrestler in the final of the Paris Olympics 2024, the Cuban hung his boot signifying his retirement from the Sport. "It’s a moment to demonstrate that someone has retired officially from the sport of wrestling and that also leaves a path wide open for the younger generation to continue inspiring others," said Lopez.
He claimed it to be the end of his career and the beginning of the younger talents. Following his retirement, many are potentially suggesting he make a debut in WWE. While it might not be the eventual possibility, his presence in WWE could make for a great star. He is one of the greatest Olympians and could be booked similarly to Goldberg.
Disadvantage of a booking similar to Goldberg
In the WCW days and the early days of his career in WWE, Goldberg was regarded as an unbeatable entity. If WWE signs a contract with him, the only way to book him would be to make him an invincible entity. After all, his career has been one such. At the Olympics, the Cuban wrestler lost a total of a solitary bout in over 20 years.
But there could be a slight disadvantage to it. The fans who were used to Goldberg's unbeaten run in WCW are old. The new fans might not like the idea of a wrestler being unbeatable especially considering some of the best in the business like Hulk Hogan, Kurt Angle, The Undertaker, and others have also lost a lot of matches in their careers. Goldberg lost some matches too.
