WATCH: Mercedes Mone share views on her divorce with husband

Sarath Ton, better known as Mikaze, is the spouse of Mercedes Mone, who has filed for divorce. August 4, 2016, was the couple's wedding anniversary. They had first met in 2010 while competing in the wrestling circuit. Sarath, a wrestling equipment designer, got to know Mone well after assisting her with some new equipment. Many of Mercedes' well-known ring ensembles throughout the years have been created by Sarath. Despite spending over eight years together, the couple has not given birth to any children.

In a recent video posted to her YouTube account, Mercedes Mone better known to wrestling fans as Sasha Banks talked candidly about her recent divorce. After eight years of marriage, the 32-year-old AEW star filed for divorce from Sarath Ton. According to court filings, Mone formally ended their relationship on Tuesday by filing the necessary paperwork in Florida. After TMZ broke the first news, she addressed it in the pilot episode, which was released on Thursday. 

While competing on wrestling circuits in 2010, Mone and Ton got to know one another. After their business partnership developed into a romance, they got married in 2016. Sources close to the couple claim that despite their divorce, they are still friends and that their parting was amicable.

Mone claimed that the pair has been apart since December 2020. He moved out in January 2021, when she was filming "The Mandalorian" and prepping for the big event of WrestleMania. The time was especially difficult for Mone, who was balancing a high-profile acting contract with a prominent position in the wrestling scene.

She also talked about how backstage politics and narrative suggestions from WWE chairman Vince McMahon contributed to her stress. Mone was concerned about the consequences if McMahon found out about her unmarried status, especially because he wanted to feature her in an on-screen plot involving a sommelier role in Carmella's gimmick. As a result, she opted to keep their breakup discreet. 

Mone's supporters will certainly support her throughout her wrestling career and personal journey. The YouTube video received a storm of supportive responses. The loss of her marriage is a new chapter in her life, and she appears to be ready to embrace it with hope and determination.
