A bout between Pat McAfee and WWE Raw has been revealed for the May 10 Backlash pay-per-view. Nick Aldis came out to announce the match, and later Pat McAfee accepted the challenge. Gunther released his anger on Raw last week following his defeat by Jey Uso for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. At Backlash next month, Pat McAfee will end his run of not competing in a singles battle since defeating The Miz at WrestleMania 39.

Last week's Raw featured a storyline in which Gunther attacked McAfee and Michael Cole for their comments after he lost to Jey Uso for the WrestleMania 41 World Heavyweight Championship. Pat McAfee and Michael Cole discussed how Gunther had tapped out to Uso in their championship fight on Raw. Gunther was later suspended from the storyline by Raw general manager Adam Pearce.

Pearce was not present at Monday's Raw; instead, SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis took over the event. On Monday's Raw, McAfee made a promotional statement about his dedication to Cole and his hard work.   He called out Aldis and requested a bout against Gunther at Backlash, claiming that Gunther had gone too far when he attacked Cole last week.

John Cena to face Randy Orton for title match

Aldis claimed to have spoken with Pearce about the prospect and to have been permitted to officially announce the fight for the event scheduled for Saturday, May 10, in St Louis. Lyra Valkyria, the Women's Intercontinental Champion, will defend against Becky Lynch, while John Cena, who has already signed for Backlash, will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton.

After winning the Undisputed WWE Championship, Orton attacked Cena twice, but later Cena officially challenged him for the title match at his home arena. During Monday's Raw, Backlash also hinted at a Jey Uso vs Logan Paul World Heavyweight title bout, which has not yet been confirmed.
