Cody Rhodes confronted Gunther who defeated Sami Zayn to defend his world title on WWE Raw. The American Nightmare was on Raw for the first time since WWE Drafts 2024 to see who he would face at Crown Jewel. While Sami had promised that it would be him, Gunther was the one who stood tall and was confronted by Cody on Raw.
After a lot of rejections for weeks on Raw, Sami managed to convince Gunther to be a challenger for the world title. Hence, a match was set between the two on the red brand for the world title. It turned out to be a good match on the main event as both the wrestlers gave a good performance.

The match had some good spots. Sami used the barricade outside the ring well. He delivered a Helluva kick through it but Gunther kicked out at two. The Ring General tried to knock Sami out on numerous occasions. But the former Bloodline member was not giving up easily.
Gunther overcomes the Sami Zayn devil on WWE Raw
On some instances, it seemed like a rematch of WrestleMania with flashbacks of it going through Gunther's mind. Sami delivered back-to-back Helluva kicks and was about to shock Gunther. But the world champion kicked out and went for his powerbomb. Sami Zayn kicked out at two on the first.
When the star wrestler delivered him the second powerbomb, Sami kicked out at one. Gunther was shocked to see it. He wanted to end it for once and all. The world champion went for the sleeper lock. Sami did not give up on thre first instance. But Gunther forced it on him and got a win via submission.
The Ring General was finally able to overcome the Sami Zayn demons. He had nothing left to prove as he beat the former IC Champion convincingly to defend the title. As he was heading back to the locker room, Cody's music hit. The Undisputed WWE Champion had a bit of a faceoff ahead of their Crown Jewel match.
