Carlos Alcaraz beat Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1 in the straight sets at the ATP Finals 2025. It means that the Spaniard finish the 2025 season as the No.1 ranked ATP player even if he loses in the semifinal or the final of the ATP Finals. Alcaraz claimed that it means the world to him to finish the season as the top ranked player.
The 22-year-old regarded year end topper as one of his goals and claimed it was far away from him at the start of the season. He felt Jannik Sinner was winning virtually everything for fun and the need for him to be there at his level.
"It means the world to me to be honest. The year end #1 is always a goal. To be honest, at the beginning of the year I saw the #1 really far away. Jannik being there winning almost every tournament he plays. From the middle of the season til now I put a goal for #1 because I thought it was there," Alcaraz said.
"I'm really proud about my team and myself," - Carlos Alcaraz
"I had a chance to play great tennis in a lot of tournaments in a row to put myself closer to Jannik for the #1," he added. Carlos said that he literally fough toe-to-toe with Sinner in the last few tournaments and claimed to be proud of himself.
