Jasmine Paolini pulled off one of the greatest performances of her career to beat Iga Swiatek for the first time in her career. The 7th-seeded star dropped just three games as she beat the Welsh star 6-1, 6-2 in the straight sets in the Quarterfinals of the Wuhan Open 2205. In the process, the Italian knocked Swiatek out of the tournament.
Coming into the match, Swiatek had a great record over the Italian. In her six appearances against Paolini, Iga had never lost a game. The youngster was so dominant that she had dropped a solitary set in all of their faceoffs, which made her a firm favorite to win the match. What followed was the exact opposite.
Right from the word go, Paolini was dominant and had the momentum on her side. The 7th-seeded player did not let Iga rest, as she placed the ball well in the gaps continuously throughout the match. Swiatek had no answers to the Italian whatsoever. Paolini delivered one of the best performances of her career.
