Former tennis player Mats Wilander has made an audacious claim concerning world number two and four-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz. The Sweden-born star stated that the Spaniard is not like tennis legends and the Big Three, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. The former world number one feels that the 22-year-old star player needs a challenge, and he can't play every match at a high level as compared to the 'Big Three.'
However, Wilander has named world number one Jannik Sinner, who is able to play every match with high intensity and is capable of taking the game to the epitome of the level, just like Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic.
"Carlos Alcaraz needs a challenge... And I think that, first of all, he's turning 22 years old in a few days, and at this point in his career, he's not like Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, or Novak Djokovic. He's not quite able to play every match like it is the final of Roland-Garros, which the other three were able to, and I think Jannik Sinner is able to do that, but Carlos Alcaraz is not quite there yet," Wilander said (via TNTSports).

Carlos Alcaraz refutes the Rafael Nadal-Roger Federer rivalry with Jannik Sinner
Tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz has dismissed the suggestions that his rivalry with Jannik Sinner is the same as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer's during their professional careers after his historic Italian Open 2025 win. Notably, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are regarded as players who seem to dominate the tennis world in the future, just like how Nadal and Federer ruled this sport from 2000 to 2010.
"I'm not going to say I'm feeling like when Rafa and Roger are playing, but I'm feeling like there's a different energy when we are facing each other than other players," Carlos Alcaraz said.
