Emma Raducanu out of Korean open Quarterfinals after suffering foot injury

Emma Raducanu withdrew from the Quarterfinals of the Korean Open 2024 against Russia’s Daria Kasatkina after she suffered a foot injury during the match.

Emma Raducanu and her injuries seem a never-ending story as the former US Open winner retires from the Korean Open 2024 tournament due to a foot injury. She was playing in her quarter-finals against Top-seeded Daria Kasatkina. The 21-year-old British player lost her first set 6-1 and withdrew from the match citing a foot injury. She had previously beaten top-seeded players like Peyton Stearns and Yue Yuan.  

Emma was on her way to reach her second-ever WTA semi-finals. The match was set to happen on Friday but washed off due to rain it got postponed and was played on Saturday. Earlier this week she said she wanted to play as many matches as possible. 

Injury ends Emma's run

But the injury ended her hopes of winning her second title. She previously had treatment on the same foot during her match against China Yue Yuan. Since winning the US Open grand slam she was struggling with injuries. Before Emma Raducanu multiple WTA stars withdrew from the tournament like World number 1 Iga Swiatek, US Open runner Jessica Pegula, and Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. 

Emma saw her serve broken 4 times by the world number 13 Kasatkina. Previously she played two matches but she never defeated Daria Kasatkina. All Quarterfinals matches were postponed a day later because of rain. After winning the match Kasatkina said “I feel sorry for Emma for retiring during the match. It's a Pity to get injured, especially in the deeper stages of the tournament. I wish her a speedy recovery and get ready for the next tournament.”

She will now play her semifinal match against either Diana Shnaider or Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk. Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia will play against Veronika Kudermetova in the semifinals which will happen on Saturday. She defeated Russia’s Polina Kudermetova in the quarter-finals. Veronika Kudermitova defeated Bulgaria’s ViktoriyaTomova 7-5, 6-3 in straight sets.
