The Match started with Alcaraz leading the first two sets with 7-5 and 6-1. The British player who played an exceptional game against the Aussie Aleksander Vukic had no answer against Alcaraz’s serves. Carlos emerged as the clear winner of the Round of 16.

Last year the Brit suffered a hip injury that prevented him from playing any warmup events before the Australian Open. Draper reached the round of 16 after his epic 5-set match against Vukic in the round of 32. Jack took a break in each of the sets he lost against Alcaraz and at one point he couldn't continue playing.

 Draper retires and Alcaraz wins.

His struggles were clear during the second set, as he failed to chase the drop shot because his body and back couldn’t reach the limits. After one hour and 36 minutes of struggle, the Brit finally gave up his fight and retired from the match. Jack Draper was the last British player in the 2025 Australian Open. His fellow compatriot Emma Raducanu was destroyed by former world no. 1 Iga Swiatek. There is no British singles player in the Australian Open as Jack Draper exits in the round of 16.

After winning, Carlos Alcaraz said, “This is not the way I want to win a match and get through. I am happy obviously to play another quarterfinal in Australia but I am sad for Jack. He doesn't deserve to get this injury. He couldn't prepare at the start of the season. I feel a little bit sad for him. I am sure he will come back stronger and I just wish him a speedy recovery.”

Carlos Alcaraz even wrote a heartfelt message on the camera lens, saying, "You will be where you deserve to be." Get well soon, Jack" for Jack Draper's recovery. Now the Spaniard will play the winner of the Novak Djokovic and Jiri Lehecka match, as he is on the verge of breaking his tennis hero Rafael Nadal’s record of the youngest man to win a career Grand Slam. The 21-year-old won the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open but has yet to win the Australian Open.
