It was the Olympic gold medalist's first-ever win in the Paris Diamond League and the first win in a Diamond League in 2 years. Julian Weber and Luiz Mauricio da Silva finished second and third, with throws of 87.88 meters and 86.62 meters, respectively.

Chopra led the chart from the word go, as he came up with a huge throw of 88.16 meters in his first attempt. In his second attempt, the Indian thrower launched the javelin for a distance of 85.10 meters. In the next three attempts, Neeraj registered fouls and ensured enough to win the event. In his last attempt, Chopra scaled a distance of 82.89 meters to end the event as the winner.

After finishing second and lower for a majority of his participation in the last 2 years, Neeraj managed to win the Paris Diamond League in style. In the process, he gained a lot of confidence ahead of the upcoming major tournaments like the World Championship, Asian Games, and the Commonwealth Games.

"Today I was really happy with the start because I had a really good run-up technique, and everything was perfect. However, I felt that my body was going too much to the left today. I was trying to go with the javelin with my chest, so my technique was not so good today," said Chopra after winning the Paris Diamond League.

"My run-up technique was perfect, and the first throw was really good to start with. I am very happy with 88 metres today and a win after such a long time in a Wanda Diamond League," Chopra added. After failing to win in Doha, Neeraj roared back in style to win his first event of the year.
