Neeraj Chopra has taken a massive step in progressing in the field of Javelin throw. The two-time Olympic Medalist named Jan Zelezny as his new coach. The Czech Republic thrower is widely regarded as the greatest Javelin thrower in history. Neeraj felt he and Jan possessed similar skills and technique, and believed it could help him evolve as a thrower.

After the massive announcement, Neeraj spoke to the reporters. The Indian thrower claimed that he admired Jan growing up as a kid. He claimed to have watched a lot of videos of Zelezny and added that the Czech was the best the sport had seen for a long time. He felt working with Jan would be beneficial for him.

"Growing up, I admired Jan’s technique and precision and spent a lot of time watching videos of him. He (Zelezny) was the best in the sport for so many years and I believe that working with him will be invaluable because our throwing styles are similar and his knowledge is unmatched," said Neeraj Chopra to the reporters.

'Will start in person at a traditional winter camp in South Africa' - Jan Zelezny

It is worth noting that neither Neeraj nor Zelezny has the sheer brute strength to throw the Javelin for longer distances. Yet, both have made a name for themselves in the sport. Jan, in fact, was a master in throwing the Javelin, clocking the 90-meter mark in a lot of instances including the world record throw.

Neeraj has not crossed the 90-m mark in his career so far. Zelezny felt working with Neeraj and knowing him better would help the Indian athlete a lot. He confirmed starting the training camp in South Africa. Zelezny believed in the technical aspect of the sport and felt Chopra had what it takes to dominate the sport.

"We are getting to know each other more closely and will start in person at a traditional winter camp in South Africa. I believe in his progress, especially in the technical aspect, so that he can continue achieving top positions at the main championships," Zelezny said.
