In a friendly match against Club America, Messi took to the field with Inter Miami in 2025. The encounter between the star teams from Major League Soccer and Liga MX unfolded in Las Vegas and culminated in a thrilling 2-2 draw. The match concluded with Messi and his teammates emerging victorious in a penalty shootout.
In the first half of the match, Messi engaged in playful banter with the Mexican fans. When he was jeered from the stands, the Argentine raised three fingers, emphasizing Argentina's three World Cup victories while highlighting that Mexico has yet to secure a title by gesturing zero with the fingers on his hands.

Former Mexican Footballer takes a dig at Messi's actions
Bautista shared a nostalgic image from the 2010 World Cup, showing a memorable moment where he faced off against Argentina, with Messi depicted on the ground.
Former Mexico international Adolfo "Bofo" Bautista criticized Lionel Messi's behaviour through a message on Instagram. Bautista stated that Messi's reference to Mexico reflects a lack of professionalism and education.
“To involve my country speaks to your lack of professionalism and education.” he captioned on his Instagram story.
Bautista has played 38 matches for Mexico and scored 11 goals for his nation. He played in Mexico's domestic league Liga MX for the entirety of his career.
Looking ahead, Major League Soccer giants Inter Miami is set to engage in several matches with Mexican teams during the 2025 campaign as they prepare for the upcoming Leagues Cup and CONCACAF Champions Cup competitions.
