Near the end of 2023, Carlo Ancelotti committed himself to Real Madrid, the Spanish capital club, by signing a new deal that would keep him there until 2026. The news of his renewal ended the never-ending rumours concerning his future with the squad and his connection to the Brazilian national team.

If the Italian were to depart Real Madrid, Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen was expected to succeed him. However, the 42-year-old himself inked a new contract that runs until 2026 with the Bundesliga winners. But according to SportBILD, Real Madrid will attempt to replace Carlo Ancelotti with Xabi Alonso during the summer of 2025.

Florentino Perez, the president of Los Blancos, has expressed his admiration for the former midfield player for Real Madrid and Liverpool's efforts at Leverkusen, as was previously reported several months ago. This past summer, apart from Real Madrid, teams like Liverpool and Bayern Munich even made approaches to him, but he chose to stick with Die Werkself.

Alonso only committed for one more season, according to the source, and the team anticipates that he will go when Real Madrid makes a move. Actually, Bayer Leverkusen is already in the process of identifying worthy successors for the Spanish mastermind.

Real Madrid set to go after Bayer Leverkusen duo next summer

The possibility of acquiring Alonso may be crucial to Real Madrid's ability to sign Florian Wirtz, who is their primary target for 2025. For his part, Ancelotti has made no hint at all that this season may be his final one spent with Real Madrid. The Italian is reportedly considering proposals from Saudi Arabia, though.

It will therefore be interesting to watch how things progress over the next few months. Real Madrid are known to make big signings and would be looking to raid the defending Bundesliga champions by signing two key people in the team. Only time will tell whether Real Madrid will go after both Xabi Alonso and Florian Wirtz or not.
