As the Euro 2024 finals lie ahead between Spain and England, the UEFA has made a last-minute change in their rule. On Wednesday, England made it into the final for the first time on foreign soil as they defeated the Netherlands by the score of 2-1 as Ollie Watkins scored a late goal coming off the bench. At the same time, Spain beat France a day before semi-final 2.

Dani Olmo and Harry Kane both scored in the semi-finals, tying their career high of three goals apiece and shooting them to the top of the goalscoring standings. They are not alone, though, as the finalists are joined on the same number of goals by Cody Gakpo, Ivan Schranz, Georges Mikautadze, and Jamal Musiala.

The Golden Boot award will go to the player with the most assists if multiple players finish with the highest goal total at a European Championship, according to previous tournament rules. This is what happened at EURO 2020, where Patrik Schick and Cristiano Ronaldo both scored five goals, but the former had one more assist. This time around, UEFA has changed the rules.

After Cristiano Ronaldo won the Golden Boot at Euro 2020, despite having the same number of goals as Czechia's Patrik Schick, UEFA announced that they would divide the award among six players if Sunday's final between England and Spain does not produce a clear winner.

Can Harry Kane win the Golden Boot?

Meanwhile, Fabian Ruiz and Jude Bellingham as scored two goals and will look to top the scoring list. However, Harry Kane and Dani Olma are the favourite players to win the Golden Boot award in Euro 2024. They aim to score the fourth goal in Olympiastadion Berlin.

The Golden Boot award will be granted to all players who share the greatest goal total if neither Kane nor Olmo score at the Olympiastadion on Sunday. Olmo, who set up his teammates twice on the way to the final, has a higher assist total, which is excellent news for the Bayern Munich player.
