England, the runner-up from the previous edition, and the winner of Euro 1988, the Netherlands, will face off in the Euro 2024 semifinal on Wednesday at the BVB Stadion Dortmund. Both teams surrendered the first goal in their quarterfinals before prevailing, with England defeating Switzerland on penalties following a 1-1 draw and the Netherlands defeating Turkey 2-1.

On Wednesday, Xavi Simons scored the opening goal for the Netherlands at Signal Iduna Park in Germany, stunning England in the 2024 European Championship semifinals. In the seventh minute, Simons scored from the edge of the box, his first competitive goal for the senior national team.

Earlier in the encounter, Xavi Simons surprised the Three Lions by opening the goal in the seventh minute. Seven minutes later, Denzel Dumfries took Harry Kane inside the Dutch penalty area, and Kane collapsed holding his feet.

But England was awarded a penalty after 10 minutes, with the referee pointing to the spot after checking the foul on the monitor. Only 18 minutes into the UEFA Euro 2024 semifinal, the English captain was fouled in the area, and following a VAR review, he took responsibility for the penalty shot to tie the score for the Three Lions.

Watch here the video:

German referee Felix Zwayer stopped play after the ball was out of play so that the VAR referees could look for possible penalties. Zwayer was then told to proceed to the video screen and observe it for himself. Despite knocking the ball out of play, Kane was the victim of a late high foot attack by Dumfries, as many replays revealed, which led the referee to award the referee.

Harry Kane sparked England's comeback by scoring a fast equalizer just after the Netherlands grabbed the lead. Even though Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen sensed his aim by diving to his right, the Bayern Munich star was remarkably precise in putting the ball in the net. In the history of the European Championship knockouts, Kane became the player with the most goals as he stood over the spot and hit the bottom corner to tie the score.
