Manchester United gaffer Erik Ten Hag emphasizes the importance of earning a place in the team for Brazil winger Antony. Having joined the club for £82m from Ajax in 2022, Antony is the second-most expensive player in United’s history after Paul Pogba.
However, his performance has been modest with just five goals and three assists in 55 Premier League appearances. Antony had a horrible start last season, much like his club where he managed just a goal and an assist .
The 24-year-old has had just one minute of competitive action this season, at Brighton last month, as Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad Diallo have been selected ahead of him.
Antony is aiming to have more involvement in Tuesday's Carabao Cup third-round tie with Barnsley, but Ten Hag emphasizes that the player holds the reins to his destiny.
Manchester United's Gaffer, Ten Hag called Antony as an impatient guy who wants to play for the side. However, according to the gaffer, certain laws must be followed in football, and one such law for any manager is to pick a team that is most likely to win the matches, a team that has the best chemistry and dynamics. He feels players must constantly compete for their position in the starting eleven. Ten Hag mentioned that the other players are performing much better and contributing more to the team. Ten Hag mentioned that Antony will be part of the team's playing eleven only when he surpasses his teammates by performing better in traininge sessions.
On being asked, whether Antony will be included in the Carbao Cup fixture , the Gaffer added, "We have every day training and the players have to earn the right to play. When players do the right thing in training, when the attitude is good, when they show performance in training, they will earn the right to play."
