The Procedure that will be followed if Napoli and Inter end Serie A on same points
Both Inter-Milan and Napoli are tied at 71 points each at the end of matchday number 33. Both the clubs have secured 21 wins, 4 losses, and 8 of their fixtures ended in stalemate. At the end of matchday 38, should both teams share the same points, the champions of this season won't be decided by goal difference or head-to-head stats.
This decision aligns with the new rules of the league which came into effect from the season 2022-23. Since Inter Milan and Napoli played a 1-1 draw on both occasions they played against each other this season, the title is set to be decided by a one-off game.
The one-off game will be played at a neutral venue. The game will run on till the regulation time of 90 minutes without any extra time. Should the scores remain the same for both sides at the end of regulation time, the winner shall be decided by penalties.
This will not be the first time a playoff may be played at the end of the league season. Earlier in 2022-23, a playoff was organised to decide the team that would be relegated to Serie B. This match was played between Hellas Verona and Spezia who were on 17th and 18th spot respectively.
Inter Milan are set to face Roma, Verona, Torino, Lazio and Como in the final five fixtures of this season. Napoli will go toe-to-toe against Torino, Lecce, Genoa, Parma and Cagliari.
Irrespective of who wins the league, it can be asserted that Serie A is heading towards a thrilling end moving into the business end of the season.
