Lewis Hamilton and George Russell were among the thousands of spectators at Silverstone on Saturday night as they supported England as they defeated Switzerland during the penalties shootout.

Prior to Sunday's race, the Mercedes duo had a fantastic qualifying session during the British Grand Prix, locking out the front row with Russell claiming pole and Hamilton following closely behind. Russell was wearing a home Three Lions shirt, and they lingered behind to witness England's UEFA Euro 2024 quarterfinal on the huge screen.

When Breel Embolo's close-range goal put Switzerland behind during the 75th minute, it appeared as though the evening would end in sadness. However, five minutes later, Bukayo Saka scored an equalizer to send the match to penalties.

As Russell and Hamilton stood by, England's players maintained composure as Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all made their spot-kick conversions. In addition, Jordan Pickford had shown his mettle under pressure by stopping Manuel Akanji's penalty kick to give England a 5-3 victory.

Both Hamilton and Russell could be seen cheering for England's heroes, and the seven- time world champion was even spotted pounding the air with joy. After England secured their place in the semi-finals, they took a picture in front of the supporters.

All eyes on UEFA Euro 2024 and Silverstone for England fans?

The Three Lions are now just two games away from victory as they play the Netherlands on Wednesday in hopes of advancing to the final. But before anything else, Russell and Hamilton are going to concentrate on Sunday's Grand Prix in an attempt to wrap up an incredible weekend for English sports.

After a late incident involving Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, Russell emerged victorious from the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend, and he will be hoping to make it two wins in a row. Yet, Hamilton, who is aiming for his very first race victory since 2021, will undoubtedly put up a strong fight against him.
