Belgium player Kevin De Bruyne said "stupid" as he exited a news conference after his team was eliminated from Euro 2024. De Bruyne is one of the few survivors from his country's so-called 'golden generation' to compete in this year's tournament. Belgium advanced to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the quarter-finals of the two European Championships on each side but has yet to win a trophy.

France defeated Belgium in the 2018 semi-finals, and they were eliminated from the Euros again this year. Another survivor of those squads, 37-year-old Jan Vertonghen, diverted the ball into his own goal to advance Les Bleus to the quarterfinals.

After the game, a reporter questioned Kevin De Bruyne about the golden generation's lack of silverware. His response made it plain that he was not pleased with the line of questions.

"And you say that France and England and Spain and Germany is not a golden generation?" De Bruyne questioned in reply. He thanked the reporter before exiting the platform, muttering "stupid" as he went.

Tancredi Palmeri, the reporter in question, responded to Manchester City's star on social media. "Ahah DeBruyne just called me stupid," he says.

Belgium hasn't won any major title

This time, Belgium opened their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Slovakia before defeating Romania and drawing with Ukraine to get out of their group. However, their inability to win the group meant that France awaited them, and their adventure came to an end there.

They were ousted in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 and Euro 2020, and after finishing third in the 2018 World Cup, the Red Devils were eliminated in the group stage in 2022. Belgium's greatest players, including Eden Hazard, De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Thibaut Courtois, have all played for the country, and their Euro 2024 campaign has been another failure.
