Belgium earned their first win in UEFA Euro 2024 as they beat Romania 2-0 on Saturday. Dominico Tedesco’s side started the game brilliantly as they scored in the 2nd minute of the game. Romelu Lukaku laid the ball in front of Youri Tielemens who broke the deadlock for the Belgian side as the former Leicester City footballer took on a shot right outside the box giving no chance for the Romanian goalkeeper Florin Nita to save the shot.

The Dragons created lots of chances in the first half but they failed to capitalise on the chances. Kevin De Bruyne failed to create much impact with the ball as he was well-marked. The game was very end-to-end, however Romania despite having the chance failed to score in the first half. Lukaku had his chances to score a goal but he yet again failed to find the back of the net.

The second half of the game began in the favour of the Belgium side as they looked much better in the game and kept on the pressure throughout the game. In the 63rd minute of the game, Lukaku was through on goal as the AS Roma striker made no mistake this time and put the ball inside the net, but after the VAR check the goal was ruled out due to offside.

De Bruyne steps up for Belgium

Dennis Man had the chance of bringing his side back into the game but he was denied by the Belgian shot-stopper Koen Casteels. Then as the chances kept on coming for the Dragons, their captain De Bruyne stepped up and secured the game after a long goal-kick in the 79th  minute of the game caught out the high back line of Romania and the Manchester City footballer was through on goal making it 2-0 for the side.

The win against the Tricolours keeps Belgium’s hopes alive for the knockout stages after their loss in the first game of the group stage against Slovakia. They will face Ukraine in the final game and need to win to qualify for the next round of the major tournament.
