Today, Spain and Georgia played in the UEFA Euro 2024 Round of 16 at Cologne Stadium in Germany. La Roja is intent on eliminating debutante Georgia in order to advance to the quarterfinals. Spain passed its "group of death" test with flying colors, defeating Albania, Croatia, and Italy to wrap off the first round with a perfect record and consecutive clean sheets.

Georgia, on the contrary hand, won one and drew the three games they played during the group round. It's Georgia's first time competing in the European Championship knockouts. It is making its debut during a major international event this season. The Bulldogs advanced to the round of 16 by defeating Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in the most recent game.

Own goals are still the most important factor in UEFA Euro 2024. Georgia led against the flow of play thanks to another own goal, this time from Spanish center back Robin Le Normand. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was the target of a cross from Georgian defender Otar Kakabadze on the far post, however the Spanish defender diverted it into his own goal with his stomach. This is the competition's sixth own goal and a new-record in the history of the competition.

In the 39th minute, Rodri scored with a low shot from outside the area to tie the score for Spain. After several attacks to tie the score at one, the goal was scored. The Manchester City defensive midfielder shot with his left foot and used his right foot to deceive the Georgian defenders who were charging. He earned a half-second extra time.

Fabian Ruiz scores Spain’s second to take them to quarter-finals

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a forward from Georgia, nearly scores a goal from halfway as Spain's Unai Simon, the goalie, is almost caught off guard. Luckily for Spain, the player from Napoli's shot went somewhat wide.

In the 51st minute, La Roja took the lead for the very first time during the game thanks to a header from close range by Fabian Ruiz. Lamine Yamal provided the assist for the goal and it was surely a great one from the youngster from FC Barcelona. Giorgi Mamardashvili, the goalkeeper for Georgia, reached the ball but was unable to deflect it. In the end, Spain maintained continued their 100% win record with a comfortable 4-1 win.
