Following the Red Devils' agreement to receive €30 million (£25 million/$34 million) from Ligue 1 powerhouse Marseille, the former England striker relocated to France last week. In a preseason friendly against Pau FC of the French second division on Saturday, Greenwood made his debut for his new team and scored his first goal. There are a lot of hopes placed on the former Manchester United winger.

Marseille's acquisition of the 22-year-old caused uproar in the city because of the charges against him that were dismissed last year, including attempted rape, violence, and manipulative and coercive conduct. The mayor of the city also came out against the agreement, and a segment of their fan base had earlier started a social media effort to urge its termination.

Olympique Marseille make progress in transfer market

As negotiations near their conclusion, Olympique Marseille, led by Roberto De Zerbi, is getting closer to an agreement with Inter Milan for Valentin Carboni. During his tenure on loan at Monza, the 19-year-old forward from Argentina made an impression, tallying two goals and dishing out four assists in 31 league games. Last year, he signed an additional deal with the Nerazzurri that will keep him with the team until June 2028.

While Inter has great expectations for Carboni and believes he may develop into a star, they also understand that selling him now will free up funds for other transfer objectives, such as an additional striker and defender. The only players the club has signed so far are Mehdi Taremi, Piotr Zielinski, and Josep Martinez.

Footmercato and Fabrizio Romano explain that Marseille is nearing the end of negotiations with Inter Milan for Carboni, proposing a loan agreement that includes a €36 million buyout option. The 19-year-old would remain under the Nerazzurri's control through a buy-back option. The two involved parties are in continual communication and are currently working on some of the specifics, even though there isn't a complete agreement yet.
