England's star batter, Joe Root, has reached a new milestone in the ongoing 3rd Test match against West Indies. In the first innings, Root completed 12000 runs in Test cricket and became the seventh person to do so after Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid, Alastair Cook, and Kumar Sangakkara. He has joined the elite group of players who have more than 12k runs in red-ball cricket, which is no less than a huge achievement.

Root achieved this feat in 143 matches after being away by 60 runs at the start of the match. He surpassed legendary batter Brian Lara, who scored 11953 in 131 games. It is an incredible record, and if he continues to play at this speed, it will just be a matter of time before he breaks Sachin Tendulkar's record as the highest run-scorer in Test cricket.

Talking about the match, it was a brilliant bowling effort by the English team to restrict the West Indies team to under 300 runs. After electing to bat first, the Caribbean team could score only 282 runs in the first innings. Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes' four and three wickets, respectively, stopped the West Indies batting attack from scoring more runs.

Joe Root and Ben Stokes' conscious attempt to save England in last Test match

While the bowlers did their job, batters failed miserably to get a good start against the West Indian bowling attack. Joe Root and Ben Stokes saved the line-up by putting up a fifth-wicket partnership of 100 runs, with both batters scoring a half-century. England still trails by more than 100 runs, but if these two batters stick around for a longer time, the opponents will be under pressure.

The hosts have already won the series, 2-0, but will be looking for a clean sweep to increase their chances of qualifying for the WTC Finals, scheduled in 2025. England has won five games out of 12 and is in the sixth position in the points table. They have a lot of matches coming up on the home soil, which is definitely a good sign for them.
