At Frankfurt Stadium, Portugal and Slovenia compete in a highly anticipated UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16 encounter. Portugal's skipper versus Slovenia was Cristiano Ronaldo and was looking to take his side home today.

The leading scorer in football for the national team was hoping to score more goals during the game and advance his team to the quarterfinals. The 39-year-old has not yet scored in the European Championship that is now in play.

In the 33rd minute, Ronaldo nearly gave Portugal the lead with a straight free kick. Vanja Drkusic put up a poor challenge near the edge of the penalty area that knocked down Rafael Leao. The referee quickly booked the Slovenian and gave him the free kick. Ronald fired a powerful shot that narrowly missed the bar and Jan Oblak's outstretched hands.

With the final move of the first half, Joao Palhinha rattled the post. After Rafael Leao brings him through from the left flank, the midfielder takes an effort from outside the box. The shot from the Fulham player beats Oblak, but it goes out of play after hitting the external side of the post.

In the second half, Slovenia were able to hold off Portugal attackers without much difficulty. Portugal had plenty of chances that they should have converted and broken the deadlock in this game held in Frankfurt. Cristiano Ronaldo had some of the best chances to convert but failed to find the back of the net. After the end of normal time, the two sides were level and it meant the game would go into extra-time.

In the 103rd minute of the game, Diogo Jota was fouled in the penalty area and Ronaldo had the chance to get the opener. However, he missed the penalty as Oblak dived the right way and he was seen down in confidence with tears in his eyes. The game is still not over and he still might have a shot at redemption.
