Vincent Kompany, the Burnley manager, has agreed to become the next head coach of Bayern Munich. The German side went for Kompany after receiving several rejections during their hunt for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel.

It is understood that Kompany has agreed to a contract till 2027, with Bayern expected to give Burnley £10.2 million in compensation. Craig Bellamy, Kompany's assistant during his time at Burnley, will not join the Belgian to the Allianz Arena, although Floribert Ngalula and Bram Geers are expected to be on his backroom staff.

Following Tuchel's departure, Bayern had recruited Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, former head coach Julian Nagelsmann, who has since been in charge of Germany, and Austria manager Ralf Rangnick, but all three turned down the offer. Tuchel discussed staying with Bayern previously in May, but no deal was reached.

Kompany has established a respectable reputation during his stints at Anderlecht and Burnley. The former defender is a four-time Premier League champion with Manchester City, took over as head coach of Anderlecht in 2020 after serving as player-manager before heading to Turf Moor. The Belgian led Burnley towards the Championship crown in 2023, but they were relegated from the English Premier League this year.

Pep Guardiola comments on Vincent Kompany’s move to Bayern Munich

While there may be some disagreement among Bayern Munich fans about the possibility of recruiting Burnley manager Vincent Kompany in Bavaria, Kompany's former manager, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, is a big fan of the idea.

The former Bayern Munich manager said, “I’m happy with the link between Bayern and Vinnie. I have a huge opinion of Vinnie, doesn’t matter if he got relegated with Burnley. I have the highest opinion about his work, his personality, knowledge of the game, the way he handles the media. I would love Bayern to take the best decision — they deserve it. I love that club. I’m in love with Bayern Munich for many, many reasons — especially the people there,”
