Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso spoke with kicker about what it will be like to raise the title on Saturday. Bayer Leverkusen are set to win the Meisterschale for the very first time in their club's history on Saturday, following their home game against Augsburg. Regarding the feeling of raising the shield, Alonso remarked that, “I experienced it as a player, but getting them as a coach in Leverkusen will be very special.”

The former Real Madrid midfielder said, “I am very proud of the players. They were very focused all season to experience this moment. This is very special. Of course, it’s also good for me, but I’m proud of the team, of the young players who had this chance for the first time. And hopefully, they still have a long career so that it wasn’t the last time.”

Last Sunday, Leverkusen surpassed 50 games undefeated in the season after defeating Bochum 5-0, giving them the opportunity to go undefeated not just in the league but also in all three tournaments this season. The real test for Leverkusen will come next season, when the team will not only participate in the UEFA Champions League in addition to try to improve on an already excellent season.

“We have eleven days to go full throttle” : Xabi Alonso ahead of historic Treble opportunity

However, the game versus Augsburg does not mark the end of the campaign for die Werkself; the following Wednesday, they face Atalanta in the final of the Europa League, and a week later, on Saturday, they go to Berlin to take on Kaiserslautern in the DFB Pokal.

Alonso discussed his mindset for the final three games as he said, “We still have three games in the Bundesliga, Europa League and in the cup. Next Saturday we can reach a very nice destination. It would be great if we could win the championship cup without defeat…(something) that has never happened before. Then we have eleven days to go full throttle, to fight, to try everything.”
