FC Barçelona is in serious financial straits: they are unsure whether they will be able to secure contract extensions for current players because of LaLiga's financial constraints, let alone bringing in fresh faces this summer. It's become a common narrative in the past few years, alongside player registrations being completed possibly as late as the day before a new season begins due to league funding constraints.

Barcelona's debt has been a recurring theme in the club's economic and football operations over the last five years. The team has experienced hurdles as a result of Covid's economic influence, and it has previously invested hundreds of millions of dollars in players such as Coutinho, Dembele, Miralem Pjanic, and Antoine Griezmann with the hopes of success.

Since then, the presidents have changed. Joan Laporta came to the helm, promising to "fix" the economic woes. However, it appears that, even having the best player of history, it has not been completely achievable. According to the press conference conducted by VP of Economics Eduard Romeu, the club's debt stays the same as it was when Laporta took over—a whopping €1.35 billion.

According to the most recent numbers, the Blaugrana's league-imposed yearly spending cap for wages and transfer fees, which is calculated by dividing the cost of a move by the duration of the contract to assign a book-keeping value for every signing, has been reduced to €204 million.

FC Barcelona meet with potential managerial candidate in London

In a crucial development, SPORT's Toni Juanmarti says that FC Barcelona director Deco and coordinator Bojan Krkic flew to London today to talk with a potential manager candidate. Over the last few days, Xavi Hernandez's position continues to grow insurmountable, with Joan Laporta and company seeking for an alteration before next season. Even though a finalised decision is still awaited, all indications lead to Xavi being fired, and successors are being sought.

Former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Hansi Flick is one of the leading possibilities to follow Xavi at Barcelona. According to the aforementioned story, Deco and Bojan have travelled to London for a meeting with the sextuple-winning coach and agent who represents him, Pini Zahavi.
