According to media sources today, Bayern Munich is investigating Burnley's manager, Vincent Kompany, as an alternative successor for Thomas Tuchel. Bayern have already rebuffed proposals from Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick. Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso, Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria manager Ralf Rangnick all have declined the post. They also tried to make arrangements for an extension alongside Tuchel, although those conversations failed as well.
Kompany has led Burnley since the beginning of 2022. Burnley won the Championship with confidence under his leadership, but ended 19th in the Premier League, leading to relegation. Before joining Burnley, Kompany coached his local club Anderlecht. The Bundesliga club has struggled with finding an appropriate replacement for Thomas Tuchel, whose departure was confirmed last week after being announced in February.
Kompany has established a respectable reputation at Anderlecht and Burnley, though the Clarets' relegation, following lofty pre-season expectations, has not gone well for the Belgian. However, he is familiar with the Bundesliga during his time as a footballer at Hamburg and understands German.
If Bayern make a formal proposal, it will undoubtedly appeal to Kompany, who negotiated a five-year contract deal with Burnley in 2023 although refused to answer queries about his future following Sunday's season-ending defeat to Nottingham Forest. Bayern went trophyless under Tuchel, placing third in the league behind undefeated winners Bayer Leverkusen and second-placed Stuttgart.
FC Bayern Munich President responds to claims of Vincent Kompany as new manager
Journalists from Sport1 questioned Bayern's honorary president, Uli Hoeneß, and received a very epic answer. He said, “Vincent Kompany? You journalists pull a new name out of your nose every other day. No, thank you, we are very happy with De Ligt and Dier."
Kompany spent his whole career as a centre defender, a position now held by de Ligt and Dier at Bayern. Thus, Hoeness joked, hinting that Bayern does not even explore Kompany for the managerial position.
