According to The Sun, Lazio has beaten Juventus in the competition for Mason Greenwood. The Manchester United attacker is under pressure from the Serie A powerhouses to sign with them. Last season, Lazio made an attempt to sign Greenwood on loan but were unsuccessful. Greenwood was accused with attempted rape, assault, and controlling coercive behaviour, and United's management decided he needed to depart Old Trafford.
Attempts to sign the forward by Lazio president Claudio Lotito were unsuccessful when he became available on loan last September. He accused United of not finishing the paperwork in time, allowing Spanish club Getafe to make a late move prior to the Italian transfer market closing.
With ten goals as well as six assists during 36 games, he went on to earn player of the year honours with the La Liga underdogs. Greenwood's agreement at Old Trafford is set to expire in 2025, although the club has the option for extending it by an additional year. He was kept on United's roster. However, the Sun said that the team has informed the player's agents that he is allowed to leave United provided they get a good offer.
United is seeking £40 million for the academy graduate, but Lazio and Juventus think they can get a deal done for about £34 million including add-ons. Greenwood is reportedly being offered a three-year contract worth £100,000 per week by Juventus.
Manchester United happy to part ways with Victor Lindelof
It has been reported that in light of Fenerbahce's interest, Erik ten Hag might be willing to allow Victor Lindelof to depart. Lindelof would be reunited with manager Jose Mourinho, who brought the player to Old Trafford in the first place, if he moved to the Turkish team.
Raphael Varane's departure from United this summer has already been known, after the two parties were unable to come to an agreement on a new contract. They would undoubtedly have to look to the market seeking replacements if Lindelof were to depart as well. Jarrad Branthwaite is one player they have their eye on, although Everton is pressing the England international.
