Pep Guardiola thinks La Liga president Javier Tebas is right when he says that the majority of Premier League teams seek punishment for Manchester City's purported financial rules violations. The Premier League winners will face over 100 charges; an independent commission will start hearing these allegations on Monday.

The worst penalties that can be applied include possible relegation and point deductions if a violation is discovered. The city vehemently disputes any misconduct. Tebas, a seasoned opponent of City's ownership, was cited as saying on Friday that "many Premier League clubs... understand that City should be sanctioned" by the Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo.

"Maybe (Tebas) is right. For the fact that all the Premier League teams want us to be sanctioned, that is for sure. I agree with Tebas for the first time, and hopefully the last. I am pretty sure I agree with that," Guardiola said as per the Athletic.

Pep Guardiola acknowledged that many of City's elite competitors want them to be punished, but he insisted that patience be shown by all sides and that they must wait for the commission's decision. Guardiola stated he has not discussed the matter with any members of the club or his players, but he is happy that the hearing of the independent commission is scheduled to start more than 18 months after the Premier League accused City.

Manchester City may be relegated if found guilty

Starting on Saturday against Brentford, the four-time league winners have a demanding schedule this year consisting of six games spread over two weeks in three separate tournaments. The 2009–10 season is when City was first accused of providing fraudulent financial records and of breaking UEFA's Financial Fair Play regulations from 2013–14 to 2017–18. Additionally, they are charged with violating the Sustainability and Profitability standards from 2015–16 to 2017–18.

Manchester City may suffer serious consequences, such as a reduction in points or maybe relegation if proven guilty. Similar rules infractions resulted in point deductions for Nottingham Forest and Everton last season.
