The English Premier League season is set for a return after nearly two weeks. Club football had halted due to the international break which saw all the football stars representing their national sides. 

Manchester United will take on Southampton while defending champions Manchester City will take on Brentford. Liverpool will take on Nottingham Forest at home in the biggest game of the weekend, the North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs. 

Manchester City and Liverpool are currently top of the table. Both teams have won 3 games with City leading the table thanks to their superior goal difference. On the other hand, the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, and Spurs will look to make the move upwards in the table during the coming weekend. 

Here are the top 6 players who will miss the upcoming EPL matchweek due to illness or injuries

6- Ezri Konsa – Aston Villa

Aston Villa have lost one of their star players ahead of their upcoming match during the English Premier League Matchweek 4. Ezri Konsa hurt his ankle during the game for England against Finland. Aston Villa are set to take on Everton over the weekend and are currently 7th in the table. England coach Lee Carsley didn’t make any statement regarding Konsa and his injury which suffered at the hour mark. Aston Villa after facing Everton are also set to play Young Boys in their Champions League group match before hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers at home. 

5- Phil Foden – Manchester City

The Manchester City and England star has been out due to illness. Pep Guardiola hasn’t given any update regarding the return of Phil Foden to the team. The 24-year-old might miss the game over the weekend against Brentford to keep himself ready for the Champions League. Man City are set to face Inter Milan next before playing Arsenal at home in a high octane encounter. 

4- Cole Palmer – Chelsea FC

The former Manchester City graduate has become one of the biggest footballing sensations. The young star had injured himself and pulled out of England duty. The Blues are set to face Bournemouth in a late away kick away on Saturday. The 22-year-old is currently leading the assists charts with 4 from 3 games and also scored a goal for his side. There is massive concerns that Palmer has made it to the English Premier League injury list and may not play this weekend. 

3- Kyle Walker – Manchester City

The Manchester City right back hasn’t played the last few games due to injuries. Kyle Walker wasn’t part of the England set up during the international break. The 34-year-old has just made one appearance for City during the season so far. City manager Guardiola is yet to give any update on the veteran defenders fitness ahead of the game over the weekend. 

2- Nathan Ake – Manchester City

The Dutch player suffered a massive injury and had to be carried off the field during the game against Germany. The 29-year-old fell to the floor and was in considerable pain as Virgil Van Dijk and rest of the Dutch team members came to ask his well being. This is a huge blow for Man City as they prepare to host Brentford at home. 

1- Martin Odegaard – Arsenal

The Arsenal playmaker suffered an injury to his ankle during the game for Norway against Austria. Martin Odegaard left the pitch in tears and pain as Erling Haaland looked on in concern. Norwegian team doctor put out a statement which read, “He's on his way to London and will have an MRI later today." It is safe to assume that Odegaard will not be part of the North London Derby match between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs.
