Paraguay has implemented distinct measures in preparation for their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Argentina, particularly to address the presence of Lionel Messi. The Argentine team, with memories fresh off their victory at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, is set to play at Defensores del Chaco Stadium on November 14. Fans can anticipate seeing Messi in action, especially after the conclusion of his domestic season with Inter Miami, where he experienced a humiliating loss in playoff elimination of the MLS Cup.

Paraguay is primed to host the all-time great in their country but it firmly intends to keep rival jerseys out of the stands—especially those blue and white ones displaying ‘Messi 10.’

Fernando Villasboa, the licensing manager of the Paraguayan FA, made it clear to EFE that measures have been put in place to prevent entry into local sectors for any jerseys that are not from Paraguay or neutral, specifically banning those from rivals. Paraguay expects full compliance with this policy.

"We have already warned that in the local sectors, we will not allow access to jerseys that are not from Paraguay, or perhaps neutral ones, but not from the rival," he said. "Jerseys from clubs that contain the names of rival team players will be allowed. This is not an issue against any player; we have great respect for the careers of all footballers. It's just that home advantage is essential for us." he added.

Messi-led Argentine side will take on Paraguay on November 14th, with their sights set on claiming all three points. Lionel Messi's last international fixture against Bolivia saw him scoring a match-winning hattrick. Since making his debut in 2005, Messi has represented his country in 189 games, netting 112 goals. He has been instrumental in leading Argentina to two Copa America titles and a World Cup victory.
