Brazilian football star Antony is set to join La Liga club Real Betis after finalizing his deal following Manchester United's UEFA Europa League match against Rangers. Renowned football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the transfer news on his X account.
Antony moves to Real Betis on a loan spell
According to Romano, the agreement for Antony’s loan move has been officially approved, allowing him to play for Real Betis until June. Notably, this deal does not include a buy-back clause, with the salary being shared between the clubs.
Antony has recorded 12 goals for the Red Devils in a total of 96 appearances for the club. He could be an important addition for Laliga club Real Betis who have struggled to find form this season. They currently sit at the 12th spot of the Laliga standings with 25 points in 20 games of the current season.
The announcement regarding Antony's transfer to Real Betis surfaced on Monday, highlighting that Manchester United has reached a loan agreement that excludes a buy option.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano further noted that this move reflects Manchester United's strategic direction, as they look to reshape their squad. Antony, who joined the club from Ajax for a reported £86 million in the summer of 2022, has faced troubles adapting to the new environment and team.
Ruben Amorim delayed Antony's transfer
Manager Ruben Amorim recognized that the 24-year-old player had not been a pivotal part of his squad this season, making only three starts. However, he believed it was essential for the club to secure additional cover in the attack before allowing his transfer.
Various sources indicated that Amorim decided to hold off on the player’s transfer until after United's Europa League match against Rangers. This strategy allowed Antony to then proceed to Seville to undergo his medical with Real Betis and finalize the deal.
