Manchester City is expected to consider selling James McAtee during the summer transfer window, especially after having turned down bids for the midfielder in January. Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson shared his insights with Football Insider, suggesting that the 22-year-old could potentially be valued at around €40 million.

McAtee gained some reputation last season while on loan at Sheffield United, and this year he has been given an extended opportunity to prove himself in the Manchester City first team.

McAtee's rise to prominence

As a product of the Etihad academy, he has made notable contributions this season, with four starts among his 15 appearances for the Premier League champions, netting an impressive five goals.

Pep Guardiola’s team has decided not to accept a £30 million offer from Bundesliga giant Bayer Leverkusen for McAtee before the transfer window closes on February 3rd. In a media briefing on January 31, Pep Guardiola expressed optimism about McAtee's potential contributions, highlighting the likelihood that Manchester City will require his efforts during the latter part of the season, especially given their current midfield turmoils.

Update from Stefan Borson

Borson highlighted that the midfielder has attracted significant interest from various clubs throughout Europe and the Premier League, reflecting his competitive appeal.

“I don’t think City has really decided what they are doing with McAtee. He can’t seem to get a first-team place, but they recognise that he’s a valuable player and they know they have got loads of competitive interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League and also out of Europe. What’s the price for a player of that sort of level? It must be €30-40 million. I think he will probably go in the summer.” Borson said.
