Kylian Mbappe breaks 72-year old club record

Kylian Mbappe netted a dazzling goal in the 68th minute and created a new club record. He surpassed the record of club legend Alfredo Di Stefano and became the first footballer to score 28 goals in his debut season for the club. Stefano held the record for 72 years when he netted 27 goals in the 1953-54 season. He also equalled Ronaldo Nazario's record of 28 goals for Barcelona from the year 1997.

In what can be termed as a below-par season for the French striker, he has still managed to net 40 goals for his club across all competitions. This feat is unique in the sense that such performance was not even given by legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud Van Nistelrooy and Benzema on their debut season.

Kylian Mbappe has the opportunity to break his personal milestone of 44 goals in a season. He already sits at 40 and has two Laliga matches and FIFA Club World Cup matches in his hands. Real Madrid currently trails 4 points behind league leaders FC Barcelona. The Catalans can put an end to Real Madrid's hopes of silverware this season if they manage to win their next match against Espanyol on May 16th 2025.
