Major League Soccer club Inter Miami's defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets has made a shocking revelation ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. The veteran midfielder has accepted the limitations of the Herons heading into the tournament.
The former Barcelona midfielder is one of the three big signings of the Herons alongside Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba. He contributed to the Herons Supporter Shield exploits last season.
Busquets admits Miami's weakness ahead of Club World Cup
The Herons will participate in FIFA’s newly revamped global competition in the United States this summer. They have received a special invitation to the event, which is expected to attract attention from fans across North America, partly due to Messi's involvement.
The Eastern Conference's Supporter Shield holders are placed in Group A alongside Al Ahly, Palmeiras and former UCL winners Porto. Lionel Messi fans are hopeful that the club at least gets past the group stages into the knockout rounds. Busquets has played down the expectations of the fans.
“It’s clear that we’re not at the level to compete in the Club World Cup. But we’ll try to compete in the group, take it game by game, fight, and hopefully move on to the next round, although it’s going to be tough,” Busquets said.
"We know that Messi is one of the players that everyone wants to see, so it'll be very nice to see Inter Miami compete at the tournament, especially with Leo in the team. He’s going to want to give his all as he doesn't like to lose anything.” said Sergio Aguero earlier.
Lionel Messi has already won FIFA's top club event thrice in his career playing for FC Barcelona. His victories came in 2009, 2011 and 2015. The management has taken proactive steps to manage the legend's game time to ensure he is able to compete and give his 100% once the event starts next month.
