Ruben Amorim, who will turn 40 on January 27, expressed that he feels more like 50 during his time at Manchester United.
The Lisbon native remarked that he has aged significantly over a decade since assuming control of the club. He added that he felt like he was 50 rather than 40 after a month of work at Manchester United.
"It’s not 40… I’m 50!" Amorim told the BBC when asked if the Fulham win was the perfect birthday present.
“After two months at Manchester United, it’s 50. It’s a privilege to spend my 40th birthday here. That feeling of winning and three points is really important for us. You cannot see a great improvement in the team and that is a fact. But to win helps us to improve." he added.
Manchester United secured a 1-0 victory against Fulham on Sunday, thanks to a crucial deflected winner from Lisandro Martinez. This win marks just the fourth league success for Amorim since he took over from Erik Ten Hag in November. While the team is still working to improve its position in mid-table, this victory is a positive step forward in their quest for better performance.
Amorim expressed that he values the expertise of Manchester United’s goalkeeper coach highly, even suggesting that he would prefer to include him in his squad over Marcus Rashford. The talented forward has not been on the pitch for his hometown club since December 12 and appears to be facing challenges under the current management. He was not included in the squad for the recent victory against Fulham.
The third away victory of the season has propelled United to 12th place in the league standings. With January bringing a packed schedule, the team is now set to refocus on the UEFA Europa League.
Amorim's men will travel to Romania to face FCSB this Thursday, where a win will guarantee their advancement to the Round of 16 in the competition.
