Ruben Amorim is optimistic about Alejandro Garnacho's future at Manchester United, especially as rumours swirl about a possible transfer away from the club.
In a recent UEFA Europa League match against Rangers, Amorim confidently included Garnacho in his starting line-up, even as Chelsea and Napoli intensify their interest in the talented Argentina international ahead of the January transfer window. Garnacho showcased his abilities, delivering a strong performance in the team's 2-1 victory, where he came tantalisingly close to scoring for the first time since November by striking the post in the second half.
Garnacho stands out as one of the few players in the United squad with significant sell-on value, prompting the club to consider putting him up for sale. This move aims to alleviate the pressure from the Premier League's profitability and sustainability regulations after substantial spending in the past three years.
A month into Amorim's tenure, Garnacho found himself at odds with the manager and was consequently dropped for the Manchester derby due to his training attitude. However, in contrast to Marcus Rashford, he quickly made his way back into the squad.
Amorim expressed his trust in Garnacho
Amorim emphasised his focus on the games and on Garnacho, stating that Garnacho is undeniably a player for Manchester United. He praised Garnacho’s exceptional efforts during the match, asserting that he is improving in every aspect of the game.
Amorim highlighted Garnacho’s impressive performance in the recent Europa League fixture, where he showed his versatility by playing effectively both inside and outside the box, as well as adapting his positions strategically.
He noted that Garnacho's commitment is evident throughout the entire 90 minutes of the game. Amorim acknowledged that while Garnacho sometimes displays frustration, it stems from his desire to excel, which is a positive sign. He believes that Garnacho has the potential to elevate his performance in every situation throughout the game.
"I think he’s improving in every aspect of the game; he was better today playing inside, also outside, changing positions; he’s improving the recovering position. You can see it until 90 minutes he’s always there recovering and helping, sometimes showing some frustration and that is good because he wants more. I think he has potential to be so much better in every situation in the game. What I can say is he understood what I was trying to do; it was really clear. I just want to help them but in the end it’s them that do the job." Amorim said.
