After two days of matches for UEFA Euro 2024, teams have begun to secure their spots in the round of 16. To top it all off, there have been a number of incredible outcomes, own goals, drama, screamers, and last-minute equalisers. Now that we've reached the group stage's business stages, let's examine how each group's teams can guarantee a berth in the following round of the competition.

Group A has four top teams across Europe as they consist of hosts Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and Scotland. All four teams stand a chance to make it onto their next round but a couple of the teams might need other results to go in their favour to stand any chance of advancing on.

Here Final Matchday Breakdown of Group A in UEFA EURO 2024

1. Germany

Germany has confirmed their place among the top two and advanced to the knockout of 16. If they can win against Switzerland, they are going to win the group. Furthermore, a draw would also be sufficient for the Germans tonight and would take them to seven points which would not be bettered by any other team in the group. However, if somehow they lose to Switzerland, they might slip down to second position on the points table but would still make it through.

2. Switzerland

The Switzerland team has their fate riding in their own hands as they just need to win their final game of the group stage to make it through to the next round. However, if they manage a draw, they would still be able to qualify for the round of 16 stage of the tournament. A loss would not be an ideal scenario for them since then Scotland might have a slight chance of overtaking them.

3. Scotland

If Scotland defeats Hungary and Switzerland loses to Germany, they will advance to the round of 16. Scotland needs to meet the requirements for finishing ahead of Switzerland since their goal-difference is currently in the negative. If Scotland loses, they will not be able to advance to the round of 16.

4. Hungary

If Hungary does not defeat Scotland, they will stand no chance to advance to the round of 16 stage of the tournament. Regardless of any result, they would not be able to finish among the top two today and have to rely on other results to stand a chance as the best third placed team in the tournament.
