Germany, the host nation for UEFA Euro 2024, defeated Hungary 2-0 on Wednesday at the Stuttgart Arena in Group A. With this appearance, Manuel Neuer has made the most appearances at the UEFA European Championship ever (tied with Gianluigi Buffon) among goalkeepers in the competition's history.

The winning goal in both half came from Jamal Musiala and skipper Ilkay Gundogan, giving the home team the advantage. Germany has already surpassed its own record from Euro 2020 with seven goals, making it the highest-scoring Euro group phase in the history of the competition.

Dominik Szboszlai, the captain of Hungary, curled in a free kick into the area during the second minute of stoppage time for Willi Orban, whose header was saved by Neuer. Roland Sallai receives the ball and uses his head to shoot it into the net. But after inspections revealed Orban was offside when he took the opening shot, the goal was disallowed.

Hungary committed a defensive blunder that allowed Jamal Musiala to rack up his second goal in the competition. Willi Orbán, the centre back, attempted to clear the ball, but Ilkay Gundogan wrestled it away. The captain of Germany returned the ball to Musiala, who finished with the simplest of finishes. During the 67th minute, German Skipper Ilkay Gundogan finished Maximilian Mittelstadt's cross towards the bottom right side to increase his team's lead.

Germany qualify for UEFA Euro 2024 knockout stages after comfortable win

Germany defeated Hungary 2-0 at the Stuttgart Arena earlier today, guaranteeing their spot in the Euro 2024 Round of 16. As a result, in this version of the European Championship, the host country is the first team to advance to the next round.

As of right now, the German team are among the top third-placed nations and will be assured of a spot inside the top two spots should Scotland lose its second Group A match against Switzerland. Hungary have an outside chance to qualify but would need other results to go in their favour.
