Recent reports in Spanish media have sparked discussions about the future of Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich, particularly due to his contract situation. Kimmich, whose current deal is nearing it's end, is considering a potential move and has expressed openness to new challenges. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are closely monitoring the situation and are considered as top contenders to secure his signature if he decides to leave Bayern. Recent reports suggested that Barcelona may have a slight edge over Real Madrid in the race to sign Kimmich. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is actively pursuing a contract extension to retain the talented midfielder.

Bayern wants Kimmich to be the face of the Club

In a recent media statement, Bayern Munich's sporting director, Max Eberl, emphasized that the Real Madrid target is an indispensable part of Bayern Munich's plans and a non-negotiable member of Vincent Kompany's dynamics.

Eberl stressed that the management is adamant about Kimmich becoming the face of the club, citing his performance, willingness, and heart as indicative of his future captaincy. However, he highlighted that the top priority at the moment is to secure the renewal of Kimmich's contract.

Bayern director Eberl: “We need Joshua Kimmich to be the face of the project; his performances, willingness, heart… he is predestined for that. He should be the captain of Bayern Munich of the future. But first, we have to extend the contract!”

The Bavarian administrator openly acknowledged that the club is aggressively pursuing Kimmich's continuity despite significant interest from across Europe.

The Ball is in Kimmich's Court

As a player with it's contract expiring next June, the 29-year-old is an ideal target for Real Madrid, which has a clear strategy of pursuing free transfers. The decision ultimately rests with Kimmich, as signing a contract extension at this point would eliminate the possibility of a move to Real Madrid in June.

If he chooses to delay Bayern's offer, similar to Alphonso Davies' current approach, Real Madrid could potentially pursue his signing.
