In its recent earnings report, Ubisoft has revealed a steep decline in revenue. The company reported a 31.4% year-on-year decline at €990 million and a massive 52% year-on-year decline in third-quarter revenue. This was largely due to multiple underperforming games that failed to impress the audience both in terms of gameplay and pricing.

The company did mention that the Q3 net booking at €301.8 million was in line with the revenue prediction, however, this does not get them out of the current situation. Ubisoft has lost a lot of reputation in the past few years and is looking to improve with the next few releases.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows remains an important release

The company is quite confident about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Shadows release, a game that likely dictates the direction Ubisoft may go in the next few months. Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been delayed twice with the company citing various quality-of-life updates to make the game fun.

Talking about the game, the CEO of Ubisoft claimed that pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows were “tracking solidly”. While Duguet didn’t elaborate much, he did say they were in line with AC Odyssey and the company is confident in the game following positive feedback from playtesters.

Ubisoft has failed to hit the mark with Star Wars Outlaws and recently shut down its free-to-play XDefiant. The company also got a lot of bad press for shutting down servers for The Crew instead of making the game offline and shuttering development studios leading to a large number of layoffs.

Last chance for Ubisoft

At the moment, the company is looking at multiple options moving forward and here, Assassin’s Creed Shadows will play a big role. Multiple showcases so far have displayed improvement, however, if the gamers are once again handed a mediocre product, it may lead to the rumored Tencent acquisition of the company.
