French video game union puts up game bundle for support to the cause

The French gaming industry is facing a massive strike with workers of Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) union up in arms regarding low wages and lost jobs. At the centre of this are multiple game development studios under Ubisoft. A strike organized by the Union on February 14th saw over 700 workers from Ubisoft take part.

As noted by PC gamer, the STJV also announced GRÈVE Strike bundle GG25 on itch.io which offers multiple indie games, comics, and other things. This bundle is there to help fund the ongoing strike which aims to get better compensation to the game developers.

Watch the video here:

The bundle starts at $1 but also features a $5 and $10 pack with more items. As of now, the bundle has raised $29,000 which is more than the second goal, within 24 hours. The third goal is at $50,000 and with the pace it’s going, it shouldn’t be too long before completion.

STJV demands job preservation and financial transparency

The STJV strike started after the annual salary negotiations did not go well, with the union complaining the raise was lower than inflation for the second year in a row which isn't surprising with the current situation Ubisoft is in. Last month, the STJV listed some clear-cut demands to help the people who suffered during multiple rounds of layoffs and ensure things get better.

Here are all the demands by STJV

  • Preservation of jobs, the cancellation of layoffs, and the accountability of decision-makers who must first make sacrifices themselves when their companies face difficulties.
  • Companies’ full transparency about their financial situation and economic health, so that workers can plan their future, and profit sharing with workers.
  • Consideration for work-related health and personal life, through work reorganisation and the reduction of work hours.
  • Direct participation of workers in decision-making at their companies in order to avoid management errors and control the proper use of private and public funding.
