Russian website hit with lawsuit by The Day Before dev
The Day Before made some waves following its first reveal. A post-apocalyptic MMO with a similar vibe to ‘The Last of Us’ paired with ‘The Division’, the game racked up a lot of wishlists. However, the launch was not exactly the game everyone hoped for resulting in mass refunds and leading to the closure of its development studio ‘Fntastic’.
Now, a report from 80 Level says that the studio has filed a lawsuit against a Russian media outlet Yakutia.Info. These lawsuits came after the outlet stated The Day Before a ‘scam’, something which was heavily debated among the gaming community.
“The company Fntastic, located in Kazakhstan, filed a claim with the Arbitration Court of Yakutia against the editorial board of Yakutia.info. The reason was the publication of two articles that, according to the plaintiffs, damaged the business reputation of the company,” Yakutia wrote.
The Day Before servers shut down as players receive a refund
The Day Before was not a scam, but a deal too good to be true. The cracks began to show following a delay in release and another gameplay footage that was similar to any other generic survival game. Many raised people started raising questions. Despite that, the game roped in a lot of players, as people who were curious to see what the game was like.
Needless to say, there was a lot of drama surrounding The Day Before. The game servers were shut down four days after launch with everyone getting a full refund on Steam, no questions asked. In light of the lawsuit, the outlet made some changes. “We, for our part, replaced the word ‘scam’ with ‘embarrassment’,” the Yakutia report further added.

Fntastic pitched community more games
A good way to get your indie game funded is with the help of community backup through services like Kickstarter, which Fntastic tried following the failure of The Day Before. Their goal of $15,000 turned out to be too much and only got funding of around $3,000. Following that, they asked for the game dev community to work on a volunteer basis with no pay.
